Saturday night and the centre of Barcelona erupts with the sound of shouts, screams and police sirens. The odd shot rings out, but the marchers and police mingle with tourists taking photos. Paddy wagons fill the streets and no other cars are seen. Is this situation really serious or not? The police are certainly ready to pounce. My feeling that the situation could turn to violence at any moment is reinforced by the appearance of a press photographer and his bodyguard in padded flak jackets and helmets.
